How to install and connect to TightVNC on Windows using bVNC

This guide is for configuring Windows for usage with bVNC Pro and bVNC, but is completely applicable to any VNC client. Only the VNC client configuration would be different.

Please keep in mind that Plain VNC connections are not as secure as VNC over SSH, because they only allows passwords of up to 8 characters in length and traffic between the VNC client and server is not encrypted. To solve both of these problems bVNC Secure supports tunneling your VNC connection over SSH for enterprise-level security of both your authentication credentials and data. If you are concerned with security and privacy, follow my guide for Windows on tunneling VNC over SSH with bVNC.

bVNC Secure is an Android app available on Google Play. Find it on your mobile device or here:

Google Play, for devices running Android 2.2 and up, or here:

0) Install TightVNC
- Go to: http://www.tightvnc.com/download.php
- Get and install the "Self-installing package for Windows".
- Do a default install and set a VNC password and a control
interface administrative password (up to 8 characters).
- Click on the icon with the "V" in the notification area of the taskbar.
- Disable "Serve Java Viewer to Web clients"
- After you have it working you can look through for any other
settings you want.

1) Configure bVNC Client:

- Start bVNC
- Create a new connection in bVNC
- Ensure "Connection Type" is set to "Basic VNC"
- Optionally name the connection something in Nickname
- Type the IP or hostname of the computer you configured in the first step. To find your IP address, follow this guide.
- Type the VNC password you chose from the first step in VNC Auth.
- Tap "Connect", and you should be in.

 2) Additional information:

- If you need to change any settings in the connection after disconnecting, you have to long-tap on the connection.

- You may have to check "Local mouse pointer" in Advanced Settings if you can't see the remote pointer.

- Post on https://groups.google.com/g/bvnc-ardp-aspice-opaque-remote-desktop-clients if you have trouble.

    1. Hi Andrei, This was probably a problem with Google Play itself. Have you been able to download it since then?

"Error! Connection failed! Too many security failures"

I setup TightVNC on my Windows 7 running PC and bVNC apps on my BBerry pbook. Connection type chosen was plain VNC.

  8. I have bought your software recently and my only complaint is that in the "Input Modes" the "Tap" makes a confusion with the "Swype". Let me explain... for example, I can do a middle-click following your help (tap-hold and tap with two more fingers), or simply sliding three finger quickly on the screen. That makes a conflict with another software I have, like "GMD Gestures Control" witch makes some shortcuts by gestures. Is that a way for you to help me? Edit: I have noticed that if we click on the BACK button, a left-click happens. Ps.: My tablet is a Samsung Tab 2 P3100 4.1.2

    1. Sounds like your tablet is not on the same network as the system running the VNC server... Whatever the cause, it's a network-level lack of connectivity.

  11. Hello mate. I've installed TightVNC on my Windows 8 machine and bVNC on my Blackberry Tablet. I'm entering the correct IP and password but when I try to connect it gives me this weird error: Address family not supported by protocol family. I'm not sure what's wrong?

  12. Hello Iordan,
I installed VNC free service on my laptop running Win8 and tVNC on my Galaxy Note II phone.
I do not have a V in my taskbar, so I cannot Disable "Serve Java Viewer to Web clients".
When trying to connect I get an error: "connection failed: EHOSTUNREACH (no route to host)" on my phone.
I try to rebooth both devices but it did not help.
    Can you help me please?
    Spiv
